Spiritual direction is one name given to a ministry that has been practised in the Church for centuries. At its heart is the practice of listening; listening to the story of another. Some prefer to use the term ‘spiritual accompaniment’ or ‘spiritual guidance’. A person offering spiritual direction, offers to listen and discern with another.
Spiritual direction offers individuals the opportunity to explore with another their faith journey. The accompanier and directee work together to discern and respond to God’s presence in the life of the directee. Two community members work in the ministry of listening and spiritual direction. This ministry is offered on a short or long term basis.
