PRIORY OF TURVEY ABBEY At Turvey Abbey we welcome visitors to our daily Eucharist and the Divine Office (worship service). There is no need to make a special arrangement if you wish to join us in worship. Our worship is open to all. Guests are also welcome to use our main chapel and smaller chapel outside of the times of worship. Turvey Abbey is not ‘open to the public’ as such; however, we do have facilities for day guests and residential guests. The Abbey provides a quiet space that can be used by guests, both men and women, for retreats, for prayer, for rest and relaxation, to get away from the busyness and stress of everyday life, perhaps to work on a particular project. In our two guesthouses we are able to accommodate both private guests and groups for day or residential visits. We can accommodate day groups of up to about 25-30, and residential groups of up to 17 on the premises. Advanced booking is essential. For more information see our retreats and courses page. In addition to use of the Chapels, guests are also welcome to use the gardens and libraries. The surrounding countryside is well provided with public footpaths and bridleways for longer walks. Groups are free to arrange their own input or to arrange to have it provided by a member of the community. It is also possible for private guests to arrange an individually guided retreat, or spiritual direction. Please enquire in advance about these options. Central to our monastic life is the practice of silence and reflection. The community keeps ‘great silence’ from after the final service of the day, Compline, until 9 am the following morning. During this time we avoid speaking and try to maintain a quiet atmosphere in the Abbey and in the grounds. We invite our guest to share with us in this practice.
